About NeuroSense
Claire McKenzie-Sime (she/her), Specialist Occupational Therapist, Late Diagnosed Autist
Hi, I am the founder of NeuroSense. I began my career as an OT after graduating with an MSc from Caledonian University in Glasgow in 2018.
Since then I have gained extensive clinical experience in both private and NHS healthcare settings.
I have become experienced in assisting people with conditions such as schizophrenia, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, diagnosed and undiagnosed ADHD/ASD, and sensory processing difficulties.
As an NHS OT working in community health I worked with people seeking assessment and support with condtions such as ADHD and Autism and this prompted me to study Sensory Integration to help as a treatment option.
During this journey I myself was diagnosed as Autistic and so I have real lived experience of what it is like to go through the assessment process and just how difficult it can be.
In order to help improve services available to adults who are querying these condtions and reaching out for help for managing their lives, I certified as an assessor in using 4 different diagnostic tools which are of the gold standard, which gives me the insight and ability to screen people for evidence of ADHD and Autism.
If you are looking for an indication of whether having a full assessment would be beneficial for you but don't know how to gather your thoughts or evidence of your difficulties to discuss with your GP in order for them to refer you, then I can help you.
Additionally, I can help you with what comes next. Often due to NHS constraints, when you do get a positive diagnosis, there little support for adults afterwards and support can be based on a 'postcode lottery'.
This is something that I want to help change.
As a late diagnosed adult, unless you are also a parent of a child diagnosed (and even then the focus is still on your child), support can be difficult to find.
Currently, I utilize Sensory Integration-informed approaches in combination with occupational therapy for both assessment and treatment.
I also provide assessment of equipment needs and adaptations for home environments to accommodate clients with mobility issues due to illness, injury and/or significant life changes.
Additionally, I am trained in Vocational Rehabilitation, which enables me to assist people who may face challenges returning to work, retaining employment, or advocating for reasonable adjustments.
